Nancy Okoh of Starville College, Abuja was on Monday, May 23, 2016 presented with her prize and gifts as the winner of First Position (Senior Category) in the Rising Star Writing Competition. Tracy Dominic also got her prize and gifts as Honourable Mention winner. Miss Okoh received a Certificate, HP laptop, Bluegate Television, Bluegate UPS and Books while Miss Dominic got a Certificate, Bluegate UPS and books. The award was presented to the winners by the organizers of the competition, The Writers Corner.  Presenting the awards to the students on behalf of the organizers, Alhassan Yusuf of Daily Trust Newspapers, congratulated the winners and urged other students to emulate them and work towards an even greater success in the future.

To celebrate one of their own were the students of the school, their teachers, Principal, Vice Principal, parents of the winners as well their family friends.

udojiIn a post prize-presentation press release, Uche Udoji, CEO Writers Corner and Project Coordinator of Rising Star Writing Competition, thanked the students and pupils of the schools already visited (Corona School, Ikoyi-Lagos, St. Saviours, Ikoyi-Lagos and Starville College, Abuja) for their support, enthusiasm and warmth during the prize-presentation ceremonies. He urged them to pay more attention to their studies and aim for excellence in whatever they do.  Mrs. Udoji promised that the next edition of the competition will soon be fagged off. She also expressed gratitude to Sponsors of the programmes, Greenlife Pharmaceuticals for their financial support and Greenlife’s Marketing Manager, Mr. Derrick Osondu for his supportive involvement during the maiden edition. “We are also grateful to Tripplesea Group, the owners/marketers of Bluegate Electronics in Nigeria, for ensuring that all winners go home with valuable gifts – a Television set and a UPS for the 1st Prize Winners in both categories and a UPS for all other winners. We are also grateful to Chelis Bookazine for their book donations to all the winners. We are encouraged and remain grateful to them”, a happy Uche Udoji, added.

Rising Star Writing Competition & Awards is an annual children creative writing competition and awards organized by The Writers Corner in collaboration with Vuvuzela Communications Limited to help develop children’s creative thinking and writing skills while rewarding the winning entries with various prizes. The entries were either a poem or a short story exploring the theme “Our Troubled Planet” with 200 and 500 word -limit for a poem and short story respectively. Details of the second edition of the competition is expected to come out soon.
